Houston We Have kickoff

We are excited to announce in conjunction with NASA Houston and the NFL Superbowl 2017 we had one of our photos selected to be part of the signature graphic for the big game “Houston We have Kickoff”. The image they selected was a sunrise image of Houston looking down the bayou we took last year. It was used in the reflection of the helmet.

The NASA store has t-shirts, koozie’s and mugs for sale with the image. Get your order in they are going quick!!!

This was the image that was used,

We were almost ready to leave and then sky turned into this golden swirling clouds over the skyline of the Bayou and city skyline so we had to take a few more images. You can see the sun just starting to peak through the high rise skyscrapers and the buildings reflections in the water of the Buffalo Bayou on this early morning sunrise. Watermark will not appear on image (Tod Grubbs)

THIRST – Ghost Tree on Lady Bird Lake

THIRST, from Women and Their Work, comprises two components: a series of 14,000 prayer flags which will form a 2.5 mile loop near Lady Bird Lake, and a 35-foot cedar elm tree that will hover above the lake itself.

The tree will be ghostly white, and will seem to float just above the surface of the lake. Along with the trail of prayer flags, the ghost tree in intended to spark a dialogue about the ongoing Texas drought and the importance of clean drinking water here and worldwide. The tree selected for the art piece is one of the thousands of trees killed by the drought in Texas.

The installation is a team effort; Women and Their Work collaborated with architects Emily Little and Norma Yancey, landscape architect Cassie Bergstrom, and artist Beili Liu, along with dozens of workers and engineers from the city of Austin. The floating tree and the trail of prayer flags will be on display through December 20.

Garrison Brothers Distillery

We had the pleasure of attending a Precision camera photo day out at the Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye Texas this last weekend. It was hot but really fun, we got the full tour of the site, tasted and learned how fine Texas Bourbon is made at the oldest Texas Bourbon Distillery in Texas.

While there I tried my cameras video, Nikon D800 to capture a cool shot of the barrels of “white lighting” as it roles down the ramp to the trailer before taken to the barn for aging.

The first shot is the guy filling the barrel with 30g / 140lb of pre bourbon “white lighting” fresh out of the still. This is just before he sends the barrel down the ramp the trailer.

The video of the barrel rolling down the rails into the trailer just inches from where the camera was set. I was standing in the back section of the trailer.

Since the Blue Bonnets are not that great this year, here is one I got last April with 2 longhorns in the shot.
