We took the images from early evening around dusk after the lights came on the buildings in downtown Austin. You can see the usual high-rises like the Frost, W hotel, Austonian, all along the shore line of Lady Bird Lake (Tod Grubbs & Cynthia Hestand)
This was the first time flying the S900 hexcopter and trying to take aerial images after sunset with the building lights on, we wanted to see how stable the camera would be and what it could do. The Z15 gimbal did an great job of keeping the camera steady and the images are sharp at 1/4 of a second exposure considering the wind was gusting to 12mph. We created a night time panorama as well using 4 images looking down lady bird lake to the east the view to the west is full of construction and cranes and did not look nice.
This is an aerial panorama image taken at night of the city of Austin skyline taken from about 180 ft of downtown, You can see the many high-rise buildings in the cityscape like the Frost, Austonian, The W Hotel, along with the Hyatt with the Firsts street bridge and the Congress Ave. Bridge which are along Lady Bird Lake.. The Austin City Hall is in front of the W hotel along with many other new buildings like the Marriott and the Colorado building. (Tod Grubbs & Cynthia Hestand)
